Answers for operators evaluating °CRYO Science systems, and for anyone curious about what cryotherapy actually does.
°CRYO Science · The Science
01What is cryotherapy?
+
Cryotherapy uses controlled exposure to extreme cold to trigger the body's natural recovery response. It reduces inflammation, boosts circulation, releases endorphins, and stimulates collagen production, all in a safe, dry, three-minute session.
02What is a °CRYO chamber?
+
A °CRYO Chamber is where whole-body cryotherapy sessions take place. Once you step in, your body is briefly enveloped with cryogenically cooled air at temperatures as low as −140°C for a maximum of three minutes.
03Is cryotherapy dangerous?
+
Cryotherapy is not dangerous when performed correctly. The liquid nitrogen used as a chilling agent never comes into contact with the skin. A trained operator is always present to control temperature levels and monitor user comfort.
04How long does a session last?
+
Most whole-body treatments last three minutes. Facial and localized sessions can last up to 60 minutes depending on the protocol.
05Is it comfortable?
+
Very. The sensation is similar to stepping in front of an open freezer on a hot day. Dry cold is significantly easier to tolerate than wet cold, most people find the experience invigorating rather than painful.
06I'm claustrophobic. Can I still use the chamber?
+
The °CRYO Chamber has the option to keep your head above the cold air, maintaining contact with the outside. The door is closed but never locked, you remain in full control during the session.
07Are there any contraindications?
+
Most people can do a session. People who should not include those with: unmanaged hypertension or a pacemaker, a history of or current cancer treatment, deep vein thrombosis, cold allergy, or pregnancy.
08What do I wear during treatment?
+
Underwear (disposable provided upon request) plus mittens, socks, and foot protection to protect extremities from the cold. Treatments are completely dry, no shower needed before or after.
09How soon will I see results?
+
Results vary by individual and goal. We generally recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week. Athletes often do 4 to 6 sessions weekly during intense training periods. °CRYO Science cannot guarantee specific outcomes.
